Playing Nintendo Wii Has Minor Effect on Calories Burned

Despite what many obese individuals may tell you, playing the Nintendo Wii video game system does not supply a significant amount of daily physical activity. According to researcher Gareth Stratton, “The energy used when playing active Wii Sports games was not of high enough intensity to contribute towards the recommended daily amount of exercise in children.” While playing Nintendo Wii’s game Wii Sports may burn up to 60 more calories per hour than playing XBOX 360’s, Project Gotham 3 racing, the overall effect is a mere bump of 2% more calories burned in a given week. A summary of the procedures and conclusions of this study can be viewed here.

My take: I’ve always found the Nintendo Wii to be a huge bore-fest. The console is good, I guess, for fat kids who can’t play real sports.
